This mainly focused on the political, economic, peace and security cluster/ sector for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Both countries have fraternal bilateral relations and strong historic friendship ties mainly because of the Pan-Africanism principle. They are majorly pursued through frameworks such as the Joint Permanent Cooperation Committee (JPCC). These are hosted rotationally between both countries.
In December 2018, the last (4th) Joint Political Consultation Committee meeting happened here in Kampala. This fifth edition took place in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
The Permanent Secretary, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Under Secretary of Sudan co-chaired the meeting.
Bagiire stressed Uganda’s commitment to the continued strengthening of cooperation between the two countries. Amb. Daffa’alla Al-Haj Ali the Under Secretary and head of the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also re-echoed cooperation.
He further urged Uganda to support the lifting of the ban on Sudan from involvement in African Union activities. At the meeting, they agreed that the next one is to be held in Kampala six months from now.
In other news earlier reported by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, Uganda protested a 79% cut on its scheduled sugar exports to Kenya, reigniting a trade dispute between the two countries. Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze said Uganda was ‘’not happy’’ with the restrictions on its sugar exports to Kenya.
‘’We need an honest conversation about these trade restrictions from your side’’ he said in a tweet to his Kenyan counterpart, Peter Munya.
