President Museveni replaced Namirembe Bitamazire, former Education Minister with him. Katureebe is going to serve in this position for the next four years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended, I do hereby appoint Justice Bart M. Katureebe as chancellor of Uganda Management Institute,” Museveni said.
Bart Katureebe just recently retired as the Chief Justice after hitting the 70-year-old mark. Currently, he is a member of China’s Expert Committee on the adjudication of international commercial disputes.
They appointed him to this position in December 2020 and he will serve for the next four years. This committee is compromised of 31 leaders of important international organizations from different countries and legal systems.
Katureebe has also collectively worked in the public service for 36 years. Eight years as a State Attorney, a minister for 13 years, and 15 years in the judiciary where five of them he served as a Chief Justice.
He served in the judiciary since 2006.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Management Institute is a government-owned national center.
Furthermore, the institute is for training, research, and consultancy in the field of management and administration in Uganda.
Due to his experience, Katureebe is going to add value to this institute as well. Namirembe on the other hand has also done an undeniably good job in his legal practice history.
