Kenya’s DP Rigathi Gachagua Refuses To Resign, Set To Appear To Court To Defend Himself

Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has refused to resign despite the ongoing impeachment. He said that he is going to fight until the end. This is because he was elected by over 7 million Kenyans to become the deputy president in the general elections.

The impeachment of DP Gachagua by members of parliament started last month. He was accused of being disrespectful towards the members of parliament and President William Ruto.

Last Sunday he took it upon himself and made an emotional plea for forgiveness ahead of a crucial parliamentary session that could determine his removal from office through impeachment.

Speaking at a National Prayer Service in Nairobi on Sunday, Gachagua asked for forgiveness from anyone he may have wronged during his time as Deputy President.

Now, while addressing the nation yesterday, he said that asking for forgiveness didn’t mean that he was guilty. He will continue to fight to lead Kenyans and those thinking that he is about to resign are just jokers to him.

“I’m a man elected by 7.2 million Kenyans. I have no intentions of resigning. I will fight to the end. Anyone who thinks I will is a joker. Asking for forgiveness on Sunday didn’t mean that I am guilty,” he said.
