Road Expansions Needed To Curb Surging Accidents – Rubanda District Authorities

Authorities in Rubanda district had come to a conclusion that narrow roads are a contributing factor to the surging accidents in the region. They have therefore demanded the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to expand roads to reduce the increasing accidents.

They made this revelation during the Engagement Meeting Between UNRA, African Development Bank and the District Authorities.

The Rubanda District speaker, Mrs. Mary Waguma pointed out the alarming narrowness of the Kabale- Kisoro road. She said it is where all major accidents have been registered hence the immediate need to work on it.

She asked that the new Muko –Katuna- Rubaya road soon to be constructed be made a medium sized road. She reasoned that the district has many products and they expect many vehicles therein.

Other notables in attendance were Adrine Tibenda and Turihabwe Vicente Kibuye, district councilors for Mgyera Habuhutu town council & Kashasha Town council.

They both respectively showed their dissatisfaction at the rate of response from UNRA to the renovation of the Kabale -Kisoro Road at Humurwa Town council.

Tibenda further requested UNRA to employ locals in Kashasha Town council to open the road and rehabilitate the market there.

Kesaphari Prossy, the District Vice Chairperson challenged UNRA to prioritize valuable communities is areas where the road will pass. Wilfred Arinda Nshenka, the district youth councilor backed her up on this issue.

Kesaphari further challenged UNRA to always engage the district political wing for close supervision of the area projects.

The Engineers from UNRA, on the contrary, blamed all road accidents on speeding and reckless drivers.
