Ronald Mayinja Denies Defecting From NRM Despite New Song Criticizing Government

Golden Band singer Ronald Mayinja has come out to deny defecting from the NRM to NUP after his new song criticizing the government.

Mayinja in this new song titled Abantu Baganye says that he’s walked from border to border in Uganda trying to spread the NRM gospel. It has however been rejected as people want to choose their own leaders democratically.

Now Mayinja has come out to defend himself saying that he’s only a people’s messenger. He further said that those criticizing his song should make their own research and see.

According to Mayinja, the people are really fed up with the government and as an activist, he had to pen down their grievances.

“Those criticizing my song should do their own research. Despite the election results, people have really refused the NRM gospel which I myself was trying to spread. I have moved across the country but the people’s feedback shows that they badly yearn for change.

And since I’m an artist, I have to get their message across. I think it’s the housefly that falls on your wound that you should appreciate because it’s telling you a lot.

I didn’t defect nor am I looking for money. I’m just being a people’s messenger. People should stop looking at art with an emotional mindset. We should be left alone to let our talents speak for the masses,” the Tuli kubunkenke singer said.

Many have started likening Mayinja to Dr. Jose Chameleone who did the same as the Doreen singer but in a vice versa move.

Chameleone defected from NRM to NUP prior to the elections. And after the elections, he moved back to the NRM after his individualistic goals failed.

Mayinja too moved from NUP to NRM and even sang the theme song for President Museveni’s campaigns. This was a huge shock to many as Mayinja had always been a vehement government critic through his music.
