Rukungiri Woman Arrested Over Husband’s Murder

On Saturday, Rukungiri police held a woman in their custody for having connections to the violent murder of her husband.

Nahe Tukamuhabwa aka Kaboyi, a resident of Nyarwanya Cell in Burora Parish, was home on Saturday night when unknown assailants attacked his home.

Apparently, Nahe had separated from his wife, Resitetuta Asiimwe, 11 days prior to his murder. Asiimwe is now being interrogated on suspicion that she could have connived with the killers to end the father of her children’s life.

According to the police, the assailants broke into the bedroom of the deceased and as he begged for mercy, they hacked him to death.

The Kigezi Region Police spokesman, Elly Maate confirmed the arrest of Asiimwe. He said she offered her help to the police in their investigations on a file of murder by assault, CRB 512/2022.

The information from the wife revealed that Tukamuhabwa had a longtime misunderstanding with the wife that forced her to leave on June 1. And when she did, she left two children behind, a son and a daughter.

Maate further explained that on Saturday at 9:00 pm the deceased went to Omukihogo Trading Centre with his son. Apparently, they appeared to be taking local brew. The son allegedly got tired and returned home, leaving his father behind. The father at an unknown time, also returned home without the son’s knowledge.

As midnight, the son woke up after hearing a loud bang in the father’s bedroom. He started screaming for help.

The assailants however warned him against this saying they would kill him too if he continued shouting.

The son then used the front door to escape from the assailants and he ran to the neighbors. By the time the neighbors responded to the alarm, the assailants had already fled the scene.

The area LC1 chairman reported the incident to Kiyenje Police Post. Later a report was made to Central Police Station in Rukungiri, and a team was dispatched to the scene.
