Rukungiri Woman Killed By Biological Sons Over Land

The police in Rukungiri have arrested two suspects after their Mother’s body turned up and appeared to have been strangled to death. Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate identified the two suspects as Christopher Turyahebwa and John Twinamatsiko.

The two are residents of Nyamambo village Kibirizi parish Buhunga sub-county in Rukungiri District. Their deceased mother, Norah Bitamu, also lived at the same address.

Maate said that it’s alleged that the deceased has been in conflict with the two biological sons over a piece of land.

He further revealed that the two men wanted to grab the land by force and the coffee always harvested by their aged parents for survival.

Maate said that the husband of the deceased, Peter Kahandana heard an unusual cough by the late. She had slept in a different bedroom. And by morning time when he woke up, he could not see her around.

“Considering the deceased’s record of checking on neighbours every morning, he could not bother tracing for her but prepared himself and moved to church for Sunday prayers,” Maate explained.

When the husband returned home from church at midday, he got the sad news of his wife’s death.

Apparently, a one Bagweirwegye Medius who had gone to a nearby swamp to collect Papyrus had found the wife dead.

The LC1 chairperson, Mwesigwa Jackson reported the matter to Buhunga Police Station. He in turn reported to Central Police Station in Rukungiri and the DCID/O and team visited and documented the scene.

They then took the body to Rwakabengo Health Center III Mortuary for Postmortem examination. This will help to ascertain the actual cause of death.

Maate said that they registered a case of murder by strangulation at Rukungiri Central Police Station under reference number CRB 160/2022 as investigations continue.
