“She won her position in [NRM] Central Executive Committee (CEC) and I congratulated her. Very many people can serve in the position of the speaker and she is one of them.”
Nankabirwa however sighted an incident where Kadaga apparently caused conflict. In 2020, Kadaga said the parliament was under siege by the judiciary and executive due to their stand on the shs10billion. Parliament had signed that money to allegedly help them fight Covid in their communities. The high court however ordered all MPs to take back the money as it was illegal.
The government chief whip, Ruth Nankabirwa declined to answer questions on whether any other NRM members had issues with Kadaga.
“In a few days, you can expect a decision from CEC on the matter of speakership so that people settle down. This will not be the end of the world.”
“Many Members of Parliament are waiting for the decision of CEC when it comes to the speakership. CEC cannot just wake up to decide on speakership without justification,” Nankabirwa.
Meanwhile, Ruth Nankabirwa also says she doesn’t see herself coming back to parliament even after five years. It should be remembered that she didn’t go through this time around.
I have prepared my handover report… and don’t see myself coming back to parliament after five years. I have to move on. I am lucky that I am quitting when I am still energetic.”
