Rwandans In Uganda To Vote For Their President At The Rwanda High Commission (Today)

The Rwanda High Commission in Kampala is on Thursday 03rd August 2017 expected to hold an election where over 7,000 Rwandans living in Uganda will vote for their president.

The Rwanda High Commission In Kampala is one of the 58 Rwandan diplomatic and consular representations abroad where Rwandans in the diaspora will be voting from ahead of the main election in Rwanda on Friday August 4.

Rwanda ambassador to Uganda Maj Gen Frank Mugambagye said all arrangements have been made. “The voting materials and all the necessary logistics have been put in place, we are simply now doing the finals to just wait for the voters to come and vote,” Ambassador Mugambagye told journalists on Wednesday.

Rwandans will begin voting very early morning!

He said voting is to start at 7am, urging all Rwandans living in Uganda to come out and exercise their right to vote.

“We shall do everything in our means to make sure that we facilitate you so that you can exercise your right to choose your leader for the next 7 years,” he also said.

Mugambagye added that although the official time to end voting in Rwanda is 3pm, since there is only one polling station in Kampala, the exercise can be extended up to midnight.

“Because we have many voters coming to one station here, we will extend the voting period, the law allows us to do it through out the whole of tomorrow. In other words if it becomes necessary, we can even go as far as midnight.”

The presidential race has attracted three candidates; Frank Habineza (Democratic Green Party), Philip Mpayimana (independent) and incumbent Paul Kagame (Rwanda Patriotic Front).

Close to 6.8 million will participate in the election to be held on 3rd and 4th of August 2017 from 5.7 million who participated in 2010 presidential election, according to the National Electoral Commission.
