My Life Is Not In Danger As Some People Claim Am Safe-Kayihura Reveals

The Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, has disputed reports that his life is in danger insisting that there is no need to panic.

In a statement issued late yesterday, Kayihura rubbished reports that appeared in The Saturday Vision to the effect that his security had been beefed up because he was a target of some assassins.

The story also noted that he had changed his security detail and integrated personnel from the UPDF.

In the statement, Kayihura said: “This is to inform the public that the story is false. I have not changed my security detail as reported. I am guarded by police guards and not the army.”

He said there was easy access to his home contrary to reports that his neighbours were being thoroughly searched as they made way to their homes.

Kayihura said however is behind these reports has sinister motives.

Kayihura’s statements comes amidst speculation that his days as IGP could be numbered following a wide ranging investigation into activities of senior police officers, some said to be in his inner circle.

On Friday two of these Joel Aguma, the commandant of the Professional Standards Unit and Nixon Agasiirwe,  who headed special operations in the police force, were arraigned before the General Court Martial in Makindye and charged with kidnap, extortion, murder and a cocktail of other charges.

It is however believed that the main reason for their arrest relates to the murder of Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the former police spokesperson who was shot as he left his home inMarch this year.

The murder, sources said, was carried out by highly trained hitmen. These men were apparently known and had been trained by some of these senior bosses.

Through their lawyer, Caleb Alaka, the incarcerated police chiefs claimed that while in detention in Makindye military barracks they were beaten and told to implicate Kayihura in their activities but they refused.
