Seven Arrested In Rukiga Murder Case

7 suspects in Rukiga district have been arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a 37-year-old man to death. ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson identified the deceased as a one Julius Turihabwe.

He was a member of the Rushebeya-Nyakarambi community, Rwamucucu sub-county in Rukiga district.

Police said that the deceased had been a serial offender on top of being the village thief. This went on until Tuesday 20th December 2022 in the mid-morning hours when a one Ignatius realized a few of his rabbits were missing. He suspected that Julius, the now deceased had stolen the missing rabbits.

Maate revealed that Ignatius then went to Julius’ home in search and he indeed found his missing rabbit there. Unfortunately, the rabbits had already been killed and their meat placed in saucepans to be cooked.

Ignatius then reportedly tied up the suspect and went with him into the trading center along with the meat in the saucepan.

At the trading center, a mob untied Julius, and seriously assaulted him. Around midday, Ignatius escorted him to his house and dumped him there.

When the father of the deceased caught wind of the events after his return, he went to check on his son. He, unfortunately, found Julius already dead.

According to Maate, the Father of the deceased reported the matter to the area Sub County Chairperson Mugisha Eddie. Mr. Mugisha also furthered the case to Rukiga Central Police Station and they responded to the scene. A case of murder by Mob has been registered at Rukiga Central Police Station under reference number CRB 648/2022.
