Shs 1.2 Billion Finally Realeased To Take Care Of Oulanyah's Funeral

Shs 1.2 Billion Finally Released To Take Care Of Oulanyah’s Funeral

The government has finally released the shs 1.2 billion needed to take care of Oulanyah’s funeral expenses. Chris Obore, the Director of Communication and Public Affairs at Parliament confirmed this.

“I can now confirm that the Finance Ministry has released Shs 1.2 billion to the Parliamentary Commission for burial arrangements of late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah. The commission will work with NOC to ensure decent sendoff,” said Obore in a tweet.

He revealed that speaker Anita Among and clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige have put in all efforts to support the national funeral organizing committee. The Acholi Parliamentary Group is however very furious. Apparently. they didn’t get any money to arrange for the fallen Speaker’s burial.

The Kilak North MP, Anthony Akol, the group’s chairperson said the organizing committee on the ground in Acholi has put in their money. This is because of the delay this side which is not a delay anymore but denial now.

Anthony revealed that Acholi MPs have been contributing at least Shs 2 million to facilitate activities like the Bwola dancers who have since pitched camp in Kampala.

This community was supposed to get above 300 million. This is before they cut the budget from shs 2.5 billion to 1.2 billion. The public played a huge role in ensuring that this budget is cut because it was too much according to many.

Meanwhile, the fallen speaker’s body is currently lying in Parliament for legislators to pay their last respect.
