Simon Muyanga Lutaaya, a veteran journalist and politician has said he personally has no problem with Mps receiving their money because it’s theirs. Legislators recently received Ugshs 200M each in their bank accounts.
This money is apparently for them to get themselves cars to facilitate their work. It is on this point that Muyanga says he is very unbiased about the money legislators got.
According to him, they are entitled to this money regardless of the season. Simon Muyanga Lutaaya said this while on the NBS Morning show. Muyanga says Ugandans have no right to even be frustrated about this.
In his opinion the chance Ugandans had to change things, they decided to vote this government back in power. He argued that if he had the power, he would even give MPs more money.
Ugandans have been throwing tantrums over this money. Most of them say this act is very selfish and unwise given the situation at hand. Most of them on social media didn’t miss the opportunity of calling the MPs greedy for accepting this money.
However, even with all this, most MPs are very quiet and not reacting to all the feedback from the public.
Meanwhile, legally, MPs are entitled to this money due to the nature of their work. However, this time around, the money was even reduced from its initial Shs300M plus to Ugshs200M.
Maybe the only argument would be that the timing is really wrong because the country is grappling with a lot of issues financially.
Otherwise this talk is still going on due to mixed emotions from the people.
