Lagu had been sick for a while in Uganda and had gotten to a critical situation where her fans and family alike got worried about her.
She was however taken to Nakaseero hospital by events promoter Balaam Barugahare who footed her bills. Balaam went on to say that the bill had been paid by President Museveni.
This was however to keep her stable for a short time as she soon became very ill again. She was advised by medics how she needed to get an emergency kidney transplant. However, the money needed was a lot and she could not raise it herself.
She resorted to fundraising, concerts and car washes finally managing to raise the sum which was over shs 250 million. While speaking to Spark TV in an interview, she said she was now feeling much better and hopeful of the best.
“Am going to do dialysis on Friday after doing one on Tuesday. Dialysis is an artificial method that does what the kidney is supposed to do. After getting the money, I had now to get someone who was going to give me a kidney. Luckily 62 people showed up but checking the entire body of someone was expensive costing around shs 3million. I however got one girl who volunteered to do everything for free and I came with her. She does not like to be in the face of camera and all she did was out of the love for God because she’s born again.” Lagu said.
However, Lagu’s fundraising did not come without controversy. This was after city faded socialite Bad Black said that the Ogumanga singer had faked her illness just to fleece money out of people.
She added how Lagu was spending the money on alcohol and her manager. Lagu came out and rubbished these claims saying that being sick did not take away her right to enjoy the luxuries of life.
