Social Media Users Brand Cristiano Ronaldo The Most Insecure Athlete Ever

Different social media users have branded Portuguese footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo the most insecure athlete ever. This followed his statements at the Globe Soccer Awards which were held in Dubai last night.

Cristiano who plays for the Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr walked away with three awards for the night. These included; Best Middle East Player 2023, Fans’ Favourite Player of the Year and the Maradona Award for the Best Goalscorer of the Year.

When they questioned him about his one-year stay in the Middle East, the footballer quickly compared the Saudi league to the French Ligue 1. According to the former Real Madrid striker, he believes the Saudi league is much more competitive than France’s top-flight football division.

Speaking at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards this week, Ronaldo said: “To be honest, I think the Saudi league is not worse than France’s league in my opinion. In France’s league you have two or three teams with a good level, in Saudi now it’s more competitive”. 

“They can say whatever they want. It’s just my opinion and I played there one year so I know what I’m talking about. But I think right now we are better than France’s league.”

Supporters on social media thought Ronaldo’s claim was a load of rubbish. Some even labeled the five-time Ballon d’Or winner “insecure”. They asserted that his Ligue 1 jibe was actually a swipe at rival Lionel Messi. Messi has spent two years at PSG prior to his move to Inter Miami last summer.

One X user wrote: “The man is so insecure. Always trying to be in a competition with Messi when Messi don’t even recognize him as a rival anymore.” Another wrote: “He’s sounding like a child again.” A third added: “This is pathetic, Ligue 1 clubs would wipe the floor with Saudi clubs. PSG aren’t the only strong team.” Another joked: “At least Ligue 1 gets more than 200 fans every game.”
