EBOLA: Minister Aceng Angry With Health Workers Threatening To Strike Over Pay

Some Ebola Funds Remain Unspent Despite Ebola Being Gone

Uganda is preparing to announce that Ebola has been completely contained as there have been no new cases for the required time. However, reports have shown that there are some funds that are still unused.

What emerged showed that shs298bn had been mobilized by partners to support the fight against Ebola. However,  reports also show that shs154bn of these funds has not been used.

This revelation came to light during the Ebola Virus Disease Response Accountability Forum. The forum was held in Kampala on Tuesday to bring to book the usage of the funds as the disease is now out of the country.

At least 27 organizations and agencies have not yet provided accountability for the cash availed to them to fight Ebola.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health, has urged the respective partners with pending balances to submit their accountability.

These are to submit to the World Health Organization a detailed accountability report. In addition to that, she asked them to provide a well-coordinated plan of how the balances will be spent.

The last case of Ebola was discharged from the hospital on November 27, 2022. Ever since then, no new case has been detected in the country.

Based on this, the Ministry of Health is ready to declare the outbreak as gone. This will mean that the country will go back to normal operations fully since Covid-19 has been completely defeated.
