Ssenyonyi says this is the type of issue they are trying to avoid by doing investigations on vital areas of the airlines. The airline was revived in 2018 but flew again in 2019.
“Uganda Airlines has collapsed before. And now it is being revived. If we make the same mistakes, we do not need a prophet to tell us that it will collapse again. We need to learn from our mistakes.”
Ssenyonyi says the academic qualifications of employees should match those in the Human Resource structure. This is the problem that is eating up the airlines according to him plus the undefined staff structure.
“Both academic qualifications and experience are important. However, do you have the academic qualifications that are within the HR manual, set as law. The experience of the Uganda Airlines officials is also being interrogated.”
“For any serious entity, you must have a staff structure. Uganda Airlines does not have that. Those are not my words. That is the Auditor General’s report. They do not have a salary structure. And now they have all these issues,” Joel added.
This story has captured a number of Ugandans. Most of the outcomes of the investigations have been mind-blowing.
The fact that for 28 years, the CEO has never got her transcript from Makerere, her salary apparently being Ugshs87 million. There is surely so much to unearth in the airlines’ story.
