Ssewanyana And Ssegirinya Denied Bail Again

Opposition MPs, Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana have been denied bail by the high court in Masaka again. The Judge who presided over this case said if these two are given bail, they will interfere with investigations.

Judge Lawrence Tweyanze of the Masaka High Court was the one presiding over this case. He added that these two might even abscond from the court.

The two MPs who were expectant were evidently disappointed by the ruling of the Judge. Police arrested these two and detained them in September.

They are currently battling cases of murder that the government pressed against them. Some of the supporters of opposition have accused the judge of working for the sitting party to frustrate the opposition.

“Could cadres in the judiciary do any different other than matching on orders and wishes of the powers that be,” a one Ronnie Kalule said.

Looking at these two MPs, though they look frail, they don’t appear defeated. Ssegirinya evidently looks thinner than before. The last time he was in court, he asked for better medical attention.

Apparently, his health is deteriorating. He even attempted to show his foot that was allegedly rotting due to the injuries he suffered during his arrest.

The fate of these two MPs is not yet known because of the way their cases keep piling.

However, they have a strong support system in their fellow opposition members who have been there even in court as the judge was presiding over their bail application.

Apparently, the president is strongly against granting bail for people battling murder cases.
