She did this during the first Migrant Stakeholders Run that happened over the weekend at Kololo Independence ground. It happened under the theme ”Enhancing Safe Labour Migration”.
Premier Nabbanja thanked the office for Diaspora Affairs and other stakeholders for organizing the event. She said it will go a long way in addressing the challenges within the labour externalization sector.
She revealed that some migrant workers face challenges due to the preferred shortcuts which she said are not necessary.
More to that, she asked these recruiting companies to also find jobs for professionals as well because they earn better.
Amb. Abbey Walusimbi is the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diapora Affairs. He said that his office intends to support the refurbishment of a reception center for the migrant returnees. This will help them resettle in their communities.
He urged all stakeholders to unite, harmonize and streamline the sector in a bid to uplift the rights and dignity of migrant workers.
President Museveni has been commended for streamlining and organizing the labour externalization sector. This came from the CEO of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Dr. Dabiri Abike.
He also revealed the need for a unified approach towards tapping into the potential of the African diasporas so as to rebuild Africa.
“Our plates are similar in the need to unify and streamline efforts towards increasing opportunities for Africans in the diaspora, and our Margaret work,” Dr. Abike said.
