Suspected Killer Of Mityana Catholic Priest Arrested

Police in Katonga Region has arrested the suspected killer of Mityana Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Josephat Kasambula. The priest happened to be the curate at St Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish in Kiboga District.

The police spokesperson of Katonga Regional Police, Ms. Lydia Tumushabe said they arrested the suspect on Thursday evening.

She said the police force acted immediately after they received a tipoff from residents of Lusalira along Lake Wamala shoreline.

‘’It is true, we have arrested the suspect at 5 pm today (Thursday) and he is in our custody at Kanoni Police Station in Gomba District,’’ she said.

On top of that, she also said the suspect will soon be arraigned in court to face murder charges when investigations are complete.

The 35-year-old suspect is reported to have brutally murdered the Catholic Priest, Fr Kasambula on Wednesday evening near the Mamba landing site.

The mamba landing site is located on Lake Wamala. The murder took place while the priest inspected his farm.

Eyewitnesses say when Fr Kasambula arrived at the farm, he asked the suspect how he managed to occupy the farmhouse and grow crops.

The suspect had no answer and instead pounced on the priest and stabbed him in the back, killing him instantly.

Another eyewitness said the suspect must been under the influence of marijuana. They know as a drug addict.
