Gerald Waibi, the deceased came from Kamuli district. He had reportedly just been posted to the school to teach economics and Divinity. He also had other duties in the school on top of the teaching roles.
Abdul Yahaha, the school’s deputy head teacher said Gerald had left the school on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in the afternoon.
Apparently, it looked like it would rain so he thought he would rush to his place in Kuru trading centre, about 300 meters away from the school.
However, Waibi reportedly collapsed on his way, just a few meters to make it to the trading center. He collapsed and fell in the running water on the Yumbe-Koboko roadside.
Yahaya further revealed that they knew nothing about any underlying health conditions since Waibi was posted to the school this year. He, therefore, said they are waiting for results from the postmortem to ascertain the cause of collapse.
The headteacher of the school, Muzamil Munduga said they are at a great loss after Waibi’s death. He further said the entire education fraternity has lost a great member.
“The teacher has just stayed a few months with us at the school, but he proved to be the teacher we had been missing for many years,” he said.
Apparently, Waibi had not accessed the Government payroll yet and had not been paid any salary by the Government.
