Computer Misuse Law Is there To Protect You – Hon. Mohammed Nsereko

Hon. Muhammad Nsereko has said Ugandans should know that the computer Misuse Law has been put in place for their own good.

President Museveni finally acknowledged and accepted for the bill to now be a law in the country. However, there has been a lot of backlash from the public saying it is aimed at tampering with the freedom of speech.

On the contrary though, Nsereko says Ugandans should be happy about this new law.

“This law (Computer Misuse Act) is particularly there to help you as a wider society. It’s not targeting any individual, it’s actually protecting you. It’s protecting cyberspace. We can make this country free from hate speech, cyber bullying, cyber stalking and other things. We can enjoy the technology space for the benefit of the generation of our young people and make it better for them.”

He says people can use social media as they please but they should be responsible. Now that there is a law, Nsereko says let people make their choice.

“You are free to operate on your social media platforms. You can use them as much as you can but be responsible. If you think you cannot do that, there is a law now. If you want to break it, it’s your choice.”

Nsereko says much as this law may create a discomfort right now, people will enjoy it more as they get used to it.
