Health Sector Needs To Be Prioritized More – Kenneth Mwehonge

The Executive Director, of Health Promotions and Social Development, Kenneth Mwehonge has said the country needs to prioritize the health sector more. According to him, there are a lot of plans on paper but very few are being brought to life.

“We have a health sector strategic plan but it has a financing gap. So we need to prioritize health and stop being rhetoric by implementing the things we put on paper. We must walk the talk.”

According to him, among all the East African countries, Uganda is lagging behind when it comes to health. He proposed the adoption of National Health Insurance Scheme in the country.

“We need initiatives like the national health insurance scheme. It’s a shame that Uganda is lagging behind in the region. National Health insurance scheme is one of the best ways to ensure equitable meeting of financial needs for health services.”

However, some members of the public have questioned how much more the health sector wants to be put at the front. Even currently, according to many, it’s at the front due to the rise of Ebola.

Many have just accused them of corruption and that they want to just have more money flowing in their personal pockets.

“With this corruption, these guys will steal from us directly,’ a one Edmond Rwagura.

It should be noted that up until now, the country has never been given any kind of accountability for the money the health sector received during Covid.

This probably is a cause of contention among the members of the public.
