On top of that, he had government stores including a UPDF uniform, police boots as well as a UPDF raincoat.
Apparently, the man is suspected to have stolen or unlawfully obtained these items. Under section 3(1) and 2(a) of the Firearm act, maximum sentences of 10 years are attracted by the offenses upon conviction.
Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha will preside over the trial to be held at Buganda Road Court. As Mayambala has no lawyer, he will be defending himself while State Attorney Lydia Nakato will prosecute the case.
In April, Attorney Lydia Nakato informed the court that investigations into the matter were complete.
As a result, the magistrate directed prosecution to present a witness in court on today’s date to testify against the accused. The suspect however, has since denied the accusations.
Kintu Mayambala has been a beggar on Kampala streets known and seen by many. He got arrested on April 4th, 2023. This came after a body search on him revealed a loaded pistol on him at a spot on Johnson Street in Kampala.
Known to be able-bodied, the man asked for money from strangers. The police revealed that the accused pretended to be a street beggar so he could gain sympathy from passersby in the city.
