Tshaka Mayanja Asked Musicians To Avoid Being Used By Gov’t

Legendary musician Tshaka Mayanja has asked fellow musicians to avoid being used by the government by all means. He said artistes have the power to speak and be heard, unlike other ordinary Ugandans who don’t have a voice and platforms.

There has been claims that the government is trying to manipulate musicians by giving them some money.

This happened after popular musician Bobi Wine real name Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu joined active politics. With his fame, he got so many supporters, something that became a challenge to the ruling government.

To avoid such incidents and competition, it is said that the government wants to bring the bigger artistes close to themselves so that they don’t contest against them.

According to Tshaka Mayanja, the money government is giving to musicians isn’t worth their brands. He said these musicians should be wise enough to know what the government wants from them and if they are willing to offer it

“If I have to remind the government that stealing is wrong, then there is a problem, because deep down, I know the state knows. But artistes have the power; that’s why the state wants to use them. Musicians should be wise about this,” he said.

It should be noted that government is now trying to help musicians by re-organizing the system. The Uganda National Musicians (UNMF) is working hand in hand with government so that the industry apparently gets better.
