The president started a campaign with the health ministry to end AIDs by 2030. He said by 2030, the country would have ended AIDs or even gotten medication for it.
Meanwhile, on the theme of this year, it is right in many ways because there is still a lot of stigma surrounding the disease. McKats, a media personality who openly shared his status with the world attested to this.
He testified that his celebrity status didn’t keep him immune to stigma. Even from people he knows very well. He said people still think when you are near an infected person, the virus will get you.
Perhaps more sensitization should be done among the people, especially in rural areas. Till now some don’t know how this virus spreads which is dangerous.
Unfortunately, sometimes the ministry of Health concentrates on urban areas where people have access to everything plus information.
However, with the coming of Covid, sadly, the government diverted all attention away other diseases. Some patients could no longer access hospital to get ARVs due to restricted movements.
As they celebrate this World AIDS day, the government should find strategies for which to tame inequality.
