Uganda Police Force On The Spot Over Intense Brutality

A few days ago, hell broke loose for the vendors in the Kampala Business District when Uganda police deployed heavily armed Field Force Unit members.

The police manned all operations in the central business district with the backing of the military police. In some scenarios, the UPDF and the elite presidential guard dubbed SFC intervened.

The joint security operations ended in the arrest of very many people and some even sustained life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday night, armed officers pushed a young vendor in his twenties into the trench of the Nakivubo channel where he blacked out and his pursuers left him there for dead.

On Wednesday, KCCA councilors resolved to visit the downtown and get a firsthand interaction with the victims of the police brutality.

This trip, however, became short-lived with police brutally clobbering and arresting them.

Eventually, they detained them at CPS Kampala before parading them at Buganda road court on charges of inciting violence.

Court remanded the councilors to Kitalya and Kigo prison until next Wednesday. The precincts of the court also witnessed scenes of brutality.

Several NUP leaders who had come to stand as sureties for the detainees faced it rough after police declared them persona non grata and pounced on them.

Kawempe Councilor Denis Senono, and Makindye East MP Nyeko Derrick were among those brutalized.

Earlier this week, AIGP Asan Kasingye tweeted about the brutality and lashed out at the men in uniform. He condemned them for misusing their power to terrorize civilians.
