Jimmy Akena, the leader of Uganda People’s Congress Party, has said there is a lot the government needs to do to realize the dreams of independence struggles. He says there is a need for national unity and for expanding services as well.
According to him, government should think about involving the greatest number of the citizens in the economic development of the country.
As the country is getting ready to celebrate the 60 years of independence, Akena says there is need to reflect on demands and challenges of the decolonization in Uganda.
“The clarion call to fight relentlessly against poverty, ignorance and disease echoes hollow where deprivation, crumbling education facilities and inadequate access to healthcare and life saving medication.”
“Domestically, we need to upgrade our infrastructure and think of participating fully in both regional markets and African free trade zones,” he added.
Self-governance comes with responsibilities and the opportunity to set the priorities right. This year however unlike other years, country men are not so excited about the Independence celebrations.
They say there is a lot to work on as a country and unfortunately, the government doesn’t seem to be bothered.
In fact this whole time, opposition has been pinning government on the abductions of people and several injustices in the country since NRM got in power.
