Ugandan Duo To Officiate at 2021 CECAFA U-23 Challenge

The Ugandan duo of center referee Ronald Madanda and assistant referee Ronald Katenya will officiate at the 2021 CECAFA U-23. The Challenge Cup will go down in Bahir City in Ethiopia.

The two officials are among the twenty-two officials officiating the upcoming tournament in Ethiopia. Ronald Madanda and Ronald Katenya are the only officials CECAFA has appointed from Uganda.

There are two match commissioners, nine referees, eight assistant referees, as well as three instructors and assessors.

Ethiopia’s Solomon Gebreyessus and Burundi’s Aimable Habimana are also the two commissioners of the matches.

The tournament will therefore kick off officially on Sunday, 18th July 2021 with a doubleheader.

Uganda kicks off with a duel against guests Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at 2 PM on Sunday. In the second match, the hosts, Ethiopia, will take on Eritrea at 4 PM on the same day.

The tournament organizers expect it to wind up on 31st July 2021. Therefore, as of 2021, the CECAFA challenge cup will be played by players under the age of 23, with a provision of only three senior players.

Each of the nine countries participating has to pay a $20,000 participation fee.
