Ugandan satellite called PEARL AFRICA SAT-1 is set to go into space today after NASA announced the launch postponement yesterday. NASA revealed that the launch scheduled for 6th November had to be rescheduled due to a fire alarm.
Dr. Monica Musenero, the state for Science, Technology and Innovation confirmed that the launch will be happening today. She said it will probably take place in the afternoon at around 1:27 pm.
Musenero also revealed that having a satellite is a very important milestone for every nation. She said it’s like having your own room in a home because when you have your room, you can shut the door and do everything.
Apparently, when a nation has no satellite, it has to buy information which becomes quite expensive.
However, having this satellite in orbit will make Uganda the primary recipient of all the information coming from the Ugandan satellite.
The satellite will provide research and observation data in six primary areas. These include forecast, land, water, mineral mapping, agriculture monitoring, border security among other areas.
Ugandan engineers Edgar Mujuni, Bonny Omara, and Derrick Tebusweke developed this satellite.
