He says this became very evident when the public made noise about the fallen speaker’s burial budget. It previously stood at 2.5 billion Uganda shs and now it’s 1.2billion.
“Ugandans have now realised the power of their voices. They made a lot of noise on social media and the budget was cut from 2.5Bn to 1.8Bn and as we talk now it’s at 1.2 Bn. I urge Ugandans to speak out more so that they continue to cut it.”
Joel Ssenyonyi noted this while on a talk show on NTV. It’s at this very place, Nyanjura expressed her disappointment with the initial budget for the Speaker’s burial. She said it means women die in child labor for nothing because the money is there.
“I was disappointed when I looked at the budget for Oulanyah’s burial. We know that many women die while giving birth yet the money we are spending on the burial is more than what we send to village health centres,” Doreen Nyanjura said.
Nyanjura stated her fears saying what if the country loses two important people, how much will the country spend on their burial.
“Calculate the money we would spend if we lost two people like Oulanyah in a year. Even when you look at the budget we are talking about, the highest percentage will be borrowed.”
