Ugandans Warned Against Crossing Into Tanzania For New Year’s Concerts

Kyotera Police has cautioned Ugandans against crossing to Tanzania to attend New Year’s crossover concerts. Some of these have been organized in areas near the Ugandan border.

These concerts include one that has been organized by Abbey Musinguzi, the proprietor of Abitex Promotions among other promoters.

These New Year concerts follow a massive Christmas concert that Abitex organized at Happiness Hotel in Mutukula.

During this Christmas concert, over 20 Ugandan artists featured and it attracted hundreds of Ugandans.

Two years ago, Uganda banned such concerts as the country moved to limit crowd gatherings to curb the spread of the virus.

Although Uganda has maintained its restrictions, her neighboring countries have relaxed their measures and removed night curfew.

However, this time around the police and immigration authorities have warned all people who intend to illegally cross to Tanzania. They said they will arrest and prosecute such people.

Kyotera Police commander Hassan Hiwumbire says they are collaborating with their Tanzanian counterparts to control the illegal border crossing. They said they will ensure all travelers go through the right border.

Hiwumbire explains that the revelers must first take a Covid-19 test at Mutukula port health within 72 hours before their exit to Tanzania. They then have to present the results of a similar test done in Tanzania before their return.

According to Abitex though, the restrictions are only in Uganda but not in Tanzania as the border authorities’ claim.

He says that his responsibility is organizing concerts. The enforcement of the SOPs is for the responsible authorities.
