UNEB A-Level Examinations Kick Off Today, Cheaters Warned

The last high school examinations, the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education, kicked off earlier today and will continue for the next one month or so.

This is the last lot of National examinations happening after Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) completed recently.

In a statement released by UNEB Executive Secretary Mr. Daniel Odongo, he said a total of 98,393 students are scheduled to sit for the UACE examinations. The statement also said that the students will be attempting their examinations from a total of 2,339 examination centres across the entire country.

Mr Odongo said 41.8% of the students sitting are female and 58.2% of them are male. Unlike at the primary level where the number of females surpassed the number of males.

A big percentage of the learners sitting for these examinations are from private schools with a total of 80,746. Those under government sponsorship total up to 17,647 students.

The statement indicated that 200 of the students have special needs education necessities. And 55 students require special support personnel like transcribers and sign language interpreters.

“The board has made arrangements for all these SNE learners to access the necessary support. Like in the previous examinations, candidates with advanced pregnancies who may manifest with challenges, as well as breastfeeding mothers will be accorded an extra 45 minutes,” Mr Odongo said.

The first paper to be attempted is European History (paper 3), World Affairs History (paper). And those in the science class will attempt Pure Mathematics (paper 1). In the afternoon, National Movements and new states History (paper1) and Mathematics (paper2).

The examinations will run from today to 3rd May. He cautioned takeholders and school heads against examination malpractice. He added that they will charge perpetrators under the new UNEB Act 2021 that calls for stringent punishment.

According to the Uneb Act, they have increased sanctions for the offences under examinations malpractice from six months to five years imprisonment; or a fine of Shs5,000,000, or both.

Mr Odongo also encouraged candidates to acquaint themselves with the instructions and regulations in the time tables they gave them months ago.
