However, in Kenya, no presidential candidate has been arrested or even restrained in movement as it was here in Uganda during the 2021 elections.
“I want to congratulate Kenyans because they have proved that they can be different over time. They have had challenges in the past but here they are holding an election and every candidate is able to go out there and connect with the people.”
“In Kenya, people are not being teargassed, beaten up, killed, or arrested. None of the candidates is under house arrest. That is what was happening here in Uganda. Our election was like a war, it was a battlefield,” Ssenyonyi added.
He says Museveni has nothing new to do anymore
Joel Ssenyonyi says he admires the fact that Kenya has certainty when it comes to change. Kenya’s constitution only allows a president to have two terms unlike here in Uganda.
Ssenyonyi says elections here are a cycle of Museveni and his rule unless something else is done. According to him, Museveni has nothing new to do anymore now he is simply buying off people.
Meanwhile, Ssenyonyi revealed that he can’t meet Museveni because all he has to offer is money and a job yet they want change.
“Some of us have refused to go meet Mr. Museveni because meeting him means giving you a job or money but that’s not what I’m interested in. My interests are bigger than a ministerial job or money. I want a peaceful transition but that’s not a conversation Museveni wants to have.”
