According to them, this is the only way to ensure the highest standards of dignity for all. The remarks followed the double explosions that rocked the city, killing seven people and injuring over 30.
Mariam Wangadya, the chairperson of the commission in a statement said this bomb incident followed a number of other terror incidents.
She notes that this comes at the time when Ugandans are remembering a dark moment last year. It was about the same time last year when 54 people died during riots in Kampala and nearby places.
As a commission, she says they strongly condemn every act of violence and terror. According to her, these acts only want to cause fear in the hearts of men.
“We commiserate with the families that have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of all the injured. The Commission reiterates that the right to life as enshrined in article 22(1) of the Constitution is inherent and the most important right, without which all other rights cannot be realized,” said Wangadya.
She encouraged Ugandans to use peaceful means to solve problems. She also encouraged them to be law-abiding because it is in fact their duty.
“It is the duty of every citizen of Uganda to be law-abiding, respect the rights and freedoms of others, and co-operate with lawful agencies in the maintenance of law and order. ”
