“Medical students are considered part and parcel of the earlier inaugural programme for vaccination of health workers. Students are, therefore, advised to get vaccinated as vaccines become available,” Prof Okwakol said
The government received additional donations of 586,080 doses of Covid-19 vaccines just recently. The jabs consist of 286,080 doses of AstraZeneca and 300,000 doses of Sinovac from the Chinese government.
The Ministry of Health yesterday informed the public that Kampala will have 32 vaccination points. Nakawa and Lubaga Division will have 8 vaccination centers respectively.
Currently, the country has so far vaccinated about 1.1M people. Dr. Aceng says this is not enough to open the economy as they ought. Their target is to vaccinate at least 21M people to totally open the economy.
Dr Jane Ruth Aceng however said there is a wide gap between those who are going for the second dose and those who haven’t got even the first shot.
“This points to the widening gap of individuals due for second doses and the larger Ugandan population that needs to be inoculated yet we have inadequate vaccines in the country,” she said.
At this rate, we are not sure what is ahead for schools. The president said they will only open schools aside from medical schools when they have vaccinated a target number of people.
However, at this speed, we still have a long way to go because this is not even half the number.
