Vice President Jessica Alupo, leading the drive, announced and handed over a contribution from the president. She handed over sh30m in total towards the renovation of the youth centre.
She revealed her happiness in contributing to the betterment of the centre after saying it sheltered them when they were internally displaced.
Different groups, however, like the choir and the chatechists also received contributions from the Vice President. She also gave soap to the young people who had been confirmed as her contribution to fight against Covid-19.
Peter Abaine, the Vice President’s husband, also announced and gave his contribution of sh2m.
“The youth are a very big fundamental tool of growth and when fully supported, they can effectively contribute towards the social-economic transformation of the country,” he said.
The Vice President encouraged the people of Katakwi to intensify their fight against poverty. She told them to mainly focus on commercial farming.
This is because the Soroti fruit factory would be expanded and thus, a bigger market for the homegrown fruits.
Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, contributed sh15m to the cause, while the area MP Bosco Okiror contributed sh6m. Various MPs both present and absent raised over shs100m both in cash and pledges.
Agago Woman MP, Beatrice Akello, also the new Minister of State in charge of Economic Monitoring thanked the VP for giving youths a priority.
