She said this because of the way the public has been coming at the government saying they have neglected Ugandans who are working abroad.
However, she also said the government had put a stop to people going out for labor purposes, especially to Arab countries.
“Around 2005, this externalization of labour was stopped by the government, thinking that the situation could calm down. However, about 500,000 people went, and others would even drown in the water. They were desperate to go because they had been promised a job. They could even afford to take themselves out through other countries.”
Peace Mutuuzo says she is well aware of the problem of unemployment in the country. Due to this, everything that looks like a job opportunity attracts a number of people.
“There is unemployment which is the biggest challenge we have now. We have educated and immunized our children. Whoever gives them a feeling that they are going to work and earn money, they go.”
On top of all this, she says the biggest challenge is people going on their own without going through the licensed companies.
This in turn makes following up on Ugandans very difficult but the government is apparently really concerned.
