The Somali National Army (SNA) recently said that its Special Forces unit killed 70 Al-Shabaab militants. They said this happened on Thursday near Jowhar, a town in the Middle Shabelle region where they claimed to have left several others injured.
In a still ongoing operation, the Somali Army spokesperson Ali Hashi said the troops also liberated several other areas.
‘’We killed 70 Al-Shabaab militants, including two senior commanders for guerrilla attacks, and injured several others in the ongoing operation against the terrorists near Jowhar town,’’ he said.
However, on the side of the soldiers, Hashi did not say if there were any casualties after the operation. However, unverified reports said some senior commanders could have possibly been killed or could have sustained serious injuries during the fierce fights.
The operation against Al-Shabaab happened on the same day as Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble visited Jowhar town. He mainly visited the area to assess the humanitarian situation there.
