“The cost of electricity is distorted by the mistakes committed by some of our actors without my knowledge. Especially the mistakes of Bujagali and UMEME,” Museveni said.
“The high cost is caused by these. We shall see how to get out of this mistake. We shall see how to get out of this mistake.”
This is not the first time Museveni is castigating the power distributor. As he addressed the nation during labour day, he blamed the power distributor for failing industrialization.
“They went behind and then brought something called Umeme. What is this for? A private company, looking for profits, you make it a middleman between the generation of electricity and the final consumers, including the factories which you want to create jobs. What’s this, what are you looking for?” he said.
Meanwhile, regarding the same, he says government is going to use other means to distribute electricity to some industrial park without going through Umeme.
“For some industrial parks, we shall supply power straight without going through UMEME.”
However, the power distributor has not yet replied to these claims in any way. We don’t know if their silence means consent towards what the president is saying or its out of respect for him. Either way, it looks like the president is fade up of the company.
