Winnie Byanyima Demands Government To Release Missing Husband Dr. Besigye

UNAIDS executive director, Winnie Byanyima has demanded the Ugandan government to release her husband, Dr. Kizza Besigye. She said that Besigye had gone to Kenya to attend a former Kenyan presidential candidate Martha Karua’s book launch on Saturday.

However, he went missing in Nairobi and hasn’t been seen since.

Byanyima apparently has reliable information that he’s being held in a military detention in Kampala. She added that her family and lawyers are demanding to see him and get to know why he’s being held in a military jail when he’s not a soldier.

Read her statement below;

“I request the govt of Uganda to release my husband Dr. Kizza Besigye from where he is being held immediately. He was kidnapped last Saturday while in Nairobi for Hon. Martha Karua’s book launch. I am now reliably informed that he is in a military jail in Kampala. We his family and his lawyers demand to see him. He is not a soldier. Why is he being held in a military jail?” she tweeted on X.

Apparently one of her followers commented saying that “Madam we have hundreds of civilians supporting  @HEBobiwine. Held in military detentions and others tried in Military courts for years. We have never heard u use your voice to challenge it as u are fighting for your husband  @kizzabesigye1” to which Winnie Byanyima replied, “He is my husband. You get it!.”

However, this has become news to some citizens about the arrest of the former FDC president. Even the FDC Najjanankumbi faction also took to their X platform to demand his release.

Details about the arrest of the four-time presidential candidate are still scanty and unpublicized but we shall keep you updated.

It should be recalled that Besigye and his breakaway faction of the FDC dubbed the Katonga bloc. They have also been traversing the nation as they plan to unveil a new party that will contest in the 2026 general elections.
