Ykee Benda has taken to his Twitter page to highlight the dangers of domestic violence. The Superman singer said that the vice has psychological, emotional and physical effects on the victims.
He says one might not torture their partners physically, but might leave long lasting negative effects on them. He therefore called upon everyone to work hand in hand to fight this vice.
It’s rare to find musicians/superstars commenting on issues that don’t fall in their line of business.
However, some take a step further into activism just like how Mpaka Records CEO Ykee Benda came out to condemn domestic violence.
“Domestic Violence isn’t only Physical, Some is psychological, Emotional, Wounds on the outside might heal but wounds on the inside they barely do. Some partners might never lay a hand on you but can break you down to shreds. Let’s fight the vice in it’s entirety,” the singer said.
This comes at the back of increased domestic violence among couples. The vice was hugely fuelled by the COVID-19 pandemic which saw partners spend increased time together amidst the undesirable economic conditions.
Social media has also helped to highlight the increased domestic violence cases amongst couples and families. Just a scroll through different social media platforms, one will find a partner accusing the other of domestic violence. In worse cases, this is even physical as the victims can be seen with sickening bruises.
Many have asked security agencies to step up in their fight and apprehension of such culprits.
