Medical interns joined the strike after their seniors put down tools saying they need an increment in salary before they touch anything.
The president responded to both the parties and assured them about the salary increment which is supposed to be with immediate effect.
However, this is still in word only because it has not been done. Dr. Chris says the government does not have a sack of money that when such orders come, it’s done there and then.
“The government doesn’t have a sack of money where we can just pick money from. The President directed that the salary be increased effective immediately, but we don’t have money right now. We shall pay the arrears.”
Dr. Chris says the strike is even uncalled for especially for the interns. This statement aroused so many sentiments among some people who saw Dr Chris once taking part in these strikes.
They say the least he should do is guide the interns instead of downplaying their efforts.
“You participate in a strike as intern doctors, you climb the ladders and become ministers, then you begin to threaten interns striking. I thought the best thing to do is lend a hand to the struggle! It is sad that leaders are so selfish and full of themselves,” NBS Journalist, Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa wrote.
