He said this reacting to the arrest of Makerere students who were striking in protest of online lectures. Apparently, the arrested students destroyed University property but they mentioned the properties they destroyed.
Kasuku says, first of all, it is a constitutional right to strike especially when people are dissatisfied with what is going on. According to him, students have a point to strike because the country is fully open, why should online lectures be a must.
On top of this, internet policies are still the same, and in no way do they favor students. Data is overwhelmingly expensive and no one has cared about that.
Makerere students have been striking since Monday disagreeing with the imposed online lectures. According to them, it was justified during lockdown but not anymore because the country is open.
Besides, there are options that students always choose as they are signing up in universities. Those who want to study online usually choose so while in-person option is also there.
Is the strike justified, maybe, maybe not? However, something realistic should be done. It is absurd to force a policy on people when you can convince them to like it.
