100 Year Old Woman Lives In Fear After Surviving Attempted Arson Attack

In a distressing incident that unfolded over the weekend a resilient 100-year-old woman and a widow to Yonasaani Kukula in Kimenyedde sub county in Mukono district finds herself living in constant fear after narrowly escaping an attempted arson attack.

The elderly woman, identified as Ms Nantumbwe Florence now grapples with the emotional and psychological repercussions of the harrowing ordeal.

The incident occurred over the weekend downpour when the centenarian became the target of a heinous act of arson.

The assailant, whose motives are yet unknown, attempted to set fire to the woman’s residence, posing a grave threat to her life and property.

Fortunately, the timely intervention of neighbors and the swift response of local authorities prevented the situation from escalating further as Abu baker Bogere a neighbour said

” Those who attempted to burn the old woman’s house could have been chased away by the heavy downpour we experienced through the night . I ask judicial officials handling this matter to expedite this process may be their verdict will save her life,”he said .

In addition according to Mr Conrad Mutyaba the lawyer to Ms Nantumbwe said the motive plotted against his client was intended to divert them from the ongoing court case .

“ what we want is justice for this old woman.We are firmly pursuing this matter and the truth will finally come out,”he said .

Meanwhile the officer in charge of Kimenyedde police post Ms Jalia Nantale confirmed the attempted arson on to the 100 year old woman saying officers have already visited her home and collected a number of exhibits.

The 100 year old woman is in fear and anxiety

“ we are also providing her with security to ensure that her life is safe,” she added.

Since the incident, the elderly woman’s life has been profoundly impacted. Previously known for her unwavering spirit and zest for life, she now finds herself plagued by fear and anxiety. She can no longer experience the simple joys of her daily routine without the haunting memories of the attack resurfacing.

The psychological trauma inflicted upon the centenarian is a cause for concern. Her sense of security has been shattered, leaving her with a profound sense of vulnerability.

Meanwhile the community has rallied together, offering support and reassurance to help restore her faith in humanity. Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

They had gathered in their respective groups to receive over 300 chickens from Hon Alibaawo in her campaign to improve the livelihood of women in Iganga district. Each group was given 50 chicken as start-up capital in their journey to prosperity. Read what some leaders said; Ms Naigambi Lydia from Nawandala Trading Centre says, “They solicited money from us through opening bank accounts and depositing Shs80,000. They also asked for land titles and land agreements from us yet we don’t have such things. I was informed that I needed to have a business with a capital of Shs4m yet my capital was very small.” The chairperson Kisoboka Saving Group in Nawandala Ms. Nakagolo Faith said they were not able to join the program. This is given the many conditions attached. She also asked their woman MP to raise their concerns to the relevant offices. The MP condemned the mode of implementation of the program. She cited that it has turned to benefit the well-off class of women other than the intended group. She further asked the government to intervene saying the current strings attached to the programme are very tight to accommodate a common woman. GROW project is a Government of Uganda initiative that arose out of the need to respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs. This is especially those who want to grow their businesses, sustain their self-employment and create more jobs.
