It’s now a habit for some security officers to subject people with corporal punishments using their positions. However, 14 security officers were arrested by a joint security team of senior UPDF officers for using too much force to the civilians in Amuru District.
Investigations about the torture towards several women and men in Amuru district is still under-going, though the suspects claimed that they were punished for disobeying president Museveni’s directives by gathering in places where they were banned.
The victims were tortured on the 2nd of April, at around 8pm at Lorokwo West village, Elegu Town Council in Amuru District. But according to the police spokesperson, Enanga Fred, the suspects used much force to disperse people, they kicked doors open, dragged people out and some were badly injured.
Immediately when the patrol teams left, the victims reported to their leaders among them called Beatrice Auma, who was so concerned and photographed them.
“One of the male victims identified as Kuma Charles Adigoli suffered significant injuries of a fractured arm and is admitted at the 4th Divisional Hospital at its headquarters in Gulu, while the rest of the victims had obvious injuries. They were further subjected to medical examination and will continue receiving the best possible support as we fast track their matter to the courts of law” Enanga said.
