2021 Elections; Aspiring MP Arrested By Police In Mbale

Police in Mbale has arrested an aspiring member of parliament for violating COVID-19 guidelines. Mr. Augustine Mutenyo, who desires to be the NRM party flag bearer for industrial city Division was arrested after he was found holding a rally.

While confirming the incident, Mbale District Police Commander Fred Ahimbisibwe said that Augustine Mutenyo was arrested along Naboa Road while  leading a procession on Tuesday evening.

The police said that he completely neglected the government measures put in place to cub the spread of Coronavirus that is currently on the rise in the country.

The suspect will be charged in court after thorough investigation has been carried out. However the campaign Manager of Mr. Mutenyo, Mr. Nelly Mukasa insists that there is someone behind the arrest of his colleague.

Covid-19 and the 2021 Elections;

It should be noted that the number of COVID-19 infections in Uganda has risen past 3000 and is already spreading within the community. For this case, people should be very careful and vigilant especially when they are in public places. This however is hard to comply with especially because of the heated political atmosphere ahead of the 2021 national elections.

There is no denying that this is so hard given that its a whole new experience for all the politicians. We can’t fully rely on media as a means of campaigning because some people have no access to different media platforms. Amidst all this however, elections have to take place as the constitution demands.
