Eddy Kenzo Scoops Tourism Brand Endorsement As Zari Sidelined

Although Uganda tourism  has registered zero growth since covid 19 hit the country,Tourism State Minister Godfrey Kiwanda says appointing Eddy Kenzo world acclaimed music celebrity will spur faster growth and marketing of Uganda.

Uganda’s tourism is at brick level with major hotels closed and those operating are at only 5% occupancy.

According to ministry of tourism statistics, Uganda has  lost close  to 800million dollars in tourism revenue due to covid.

Kiwanda noted that Kenzo’s global profile will help Uganda’s visibility as a preferred tourist destination and mentioned that Kenzo had agreed to sign on as an ambassador at a time when Uganda needed him the most. As the nation and the rest of the world has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also said Kenzo’s music has been so instrumental in restoring hope, building confidence and showcasing Uganda’s strength. His job will be blending his music appeal with the beauty of Uganda. He will also encourage both local and international tourists to explore the country.

Role of Eddy Kenzo In Kenya

Despite his desire to join the Tulambule Campaign when it was launched in August 2016, Kenzo was still contractually bound to Kenya and as soon as his contract with Kenya expired, he was able to call Minister Kiwanda and pledge to volunteer as Uganda’s ambassador for tourism.

Eddy Kenzo has been a tourism ambassador for Kenya and has helped to market  the country’s tourism sector. During this time, he traversed nearly every corner of the East African nation and one day he was challenged by one of his fans who questioned his loyalty to his home country.

This comes with mixed feelings from socialite Zari Hassan‘s fans as this role was formally held by her.
