The red cross spokesman, Alexis Manirakiza said,”Approximately 45 people have been injured in the violence since President Pierre Nkurunziza was nominated again by the ruling party as its capable candidate in June 26 elections.
At least six protesters were killed last week, following the violent clashes with the police who were shooting live bullets and tear gas to chase away the crowds. Its almost a week now since the protests begun, its happening mostly in the suburbs of Burundi’s capital Bujumbura and its because of the president’s bid to run another term.

Protesters keep saying their aim is to force president Nkurunziza to give up his bid for a third term, which is an infringement of the Arusha Agreements that made the civil war to come to an end here in which more than 250,000 people lost their lives.

Many have fled to the neighboring countries like Rwanda escaping the violence that has become rampant in the suburbs of the capital, Bujumbura, others have become refugees and given tents to sleep in.
