It is believed that the builders landed on the bombs as they were digging a foundation for the new house of Ms Ndagire Josephine in Mukungwe Sub-Country.
The 3 builders who were given a contract to build a new house for Ms Josephine in Mukungwe Sub-County reportedly came across suspicious metallic objects which they recalled seeing in movies.
One of the builders identified as Asiimwe said the objects looked exactly like real explosives they usually see in movies. Ms Josephine advised us to report to police immediately which responded in time,”he said.
The team of police officers and detectives led by Mr Kanakulya Denis from Nyendo Police Station visited Ms Josephine’s home.
They saw and confirmed the bombs and thereafter called their bosses from the army who reacted positively.
Maj Atwiine David, the head of Armoured Brigade Intelligence Department said 4 of these bombs were still in good shape while the remaining 2 had been triggered a bit though the bomb squad were able to disarm them.
We believe these explosives were planted during Idi Amin’s war of 1979. We therefore advise the locals to be more vigilant and to inform police in time,’’he said.
